Nursery cooking

The Nursery class love cooking and have been making a range of foods.  Over the last few weeks they have tried their hand at making a seasonal soup, cheesy stars, scones and sandwich making.

They've used lots of skills to create their dishes, and our child-friendly knives have meant that they are a dab hand at chopping and slicing.  Introducing food prep to children engages them in a sensory experience,  they learn to stir, mix, and carefully measure ingredients, developing crucial fine motor skills. They've learnt about the science of cooking – how different ingredients react, how heat transforms substances, and the importance of following a sequence of steps. They learn new vocabulary words too, like "sizzle,"and "grate," expanding their language skills.

Working together, they've learn about sharing, taking turns, and cooperating to achieve a common goal. The sense of accomplishment when they finally taste their creation is palpable, boosting their self-esteem and confidence.

Children are free to experiment with flavours, colours, and presentations, turning simple cooking into a joyful and expressive experience.
